Intel’s LDM3D: A Game-Changer for Virtual Reality Content Creation

Jul 5, 2023 | AI News | 0 comments

Intel has launched a new generative artificial intelligence, LDM3D, capable of creating 360-degree 3D virtual environments from a written request. This AI is available under an open-source license, marking a significant step forward in the digital entertainment industry.

The Power of LDM3D

LDM3D, short for Latent Diffusion Model for 3D, is based on a specialized version of Stable Diffusion version 1.4. This AI generates a two-dimensional 360-degree image of an environment, along with a depth map that contains information about the relative distance of each pixel. This model can quickly generate various environments, such as a peaceful forest, an urban landscape, or even a futuristic sci-fi world.

DepthFusion: Bringing Virtual Environments to Life

Intel Labs, in collaboration with Blockade Labs, developed a system called DepthFusion. This system uses the visual programming language TouchDesigner to create immersive and interactive digital experiences. In other words, it combines the image and the depth map to create a 360-degree 3D virtual environment.

The Impact on Virtual Reality and Beyond

The images generated by LDM3D could revolutionize content creation for virtual reality, the metaverse, video games, and even architecture. The model is freely available on the Hugging Face website, opening up a world of possibilities for developers and creators alike.
