Elon Musk Launches xAI to Rival OpenAI

Elon Musk, the visionary behind Tesla and SpaceX, has recently launched his sixth venture, xAI, in response to OpenAI and ChatGPT. The new company’s mission is to “understand the true nature of the Universe,” according to its website.

The Team Behind xAI

The team at xAI is composed of industry experts who have previously worked at renowned companies such as DeepMind, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI. This includes individuals who have contributed to the development of competing AI technologies, including ChatGPT. Musk himself leads this exclusively male team.

Training the AI

Musk has revealed that the AI will be trained on public tweets. However, the billionaire has not provided many details about the AI yet. The discussion about the AI’s training was held on Twitter Spaces, a social media platform.

The Birth of xAI

Musk has been preparing for this project since at least March when he registered a company named X.AI in Nevada. Despite expressing his anxiety about AI on Twitter and signing an open letter with approximately 1,400 scientists and tech specialists calling for a six-month moratorium on AI development, Musk has moved forward with his own AI venture.

The Future of xAI

There is speculation about whether Musk’s AI will promote conspiracy theories, as he seemed to suggest in an interview on Fox News in April. He referred to the AI as TruthGPT, reminiscent of Donald Trump’s social network, Truth Social. After criticizing other chatbots like ChatGPT and claiming that programmers train AIs to lie, Musk positioned himself as a savior of humanity and the arbiter of truth.
